Delgado Community College’s Electrical-Electronics Engineering Technology program prepares graduates to become engineering technicians in high-demand fields like industrial automation and advanced manufacturing. The curriculum balances foundational theory with hands-on application, giving students the skills to install, maintain, and troubleshoot complex electrical and electronic systems.


Program & Admission

Delgado’s Electrical-Electronics Engineering Technology (ELET) program culminates in an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree. The program is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE), which ensures it meets a high standard of quality for technical education.

To be admitted to the college, applicants must submit a general admission application, and provide an immunization record and Selective Service information if applicable. Students can then submit ACT scores or take a placement assessment to determine their starting courses in mathematics and English.


Coursework and Skills Learned

The ELET curriculum is a rigorous sequence of courses designed to provide both a theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of electrical and electronic systems. Students learn through a mix of lecture and mandatory lab components. Key courses in the program include:

  • Electrical Circuits I & II: These courses cover the fundamentals of direct and alternating current, and the analysis of series, parallel, and combination circuits.
  • Electronics I: Students learn about the construction, operation, and application of solid-state electronic components.
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs): This is a core course focused on the programming and application of PLCs, which are the brains of modern automated systems.
  • Digital Circuits & Microprocessors: Students explore the world of digital electronics, learning to design and work with logic gates and the microprocessors that control complex devices.
  • Industrial Electronics & Communications: These courses apply the foundational principles to real-world industrial settings, including robotics and communication systems.

The program also includes general education courses in math (including College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus I), physics, and English, providing a well-rounded education.
